How a Smart Lock Opens Your Door WITHOUT a Key

A smart lock isn't magic, and it isn't a fancier key. Underneath, it's just a tiny motor doing what your wrist used to do.
So how does your phone tell a chunk of metal to unlock, without a key ever touching it?
Inside your door is a small electric motor. When it spins, gears turn the deadbolt, sliding that bar in or out of the frame, the same motion your hand makes with a thumb turn. The smart part is deciding when to spin. Your phone and the lock trade a short handshake over Bluetooth, and the lock checks it carries the right secret code. Only if it matches does a chip power the motor. Get it wrong, the bolt stays put.
Here's what people miss: the strong part of your door was never electronic. It's still the same steel bolt in the same frame. The smart lock only replaced the decision to turn it. So its real weak point isn't the metal, it's the code.
