NARRATION: Billions in the bank, famous friends, a private island. And he had never felt more alone.

Markus Persson grew up in Sweden, a quiet kid who spoke through a keyboard.

For years he built games after hours, as Notch.

In 2009 he released a rough building game alone. No studio, just blocks.

Players carved whole worlds from the blocks. Word spread, and late nights consumed him.

He co-founded Mojang, and in 2011 released the full Minecraft. It became a global obsession.

It grew into the best-selling game ever made, crossing three hundred million copies.

In 2014, Microsoft bought Mojang for about two and a half billion dollars. Overnight, a billionaire.

In 2015 he posted something nobody expected: surrounded by luxury, he felt purposeless and isolated.

He built the game that defined a generation, then found what he loved was the work, not the money.
