June 4th, 1942. Japan's Admiral Yamamoto commanded the most powerful naval force ever assembled in the Pacific — four elite aircraft carriers, 248 planes, and a crew of the best-trained pilots in the world. His target: Midway Atoll. His goal: destroy the US Navy once and for all.

America was outnumbered, outgunned, and scrambling. Three US carriers. No battleships. And wave after wave of American torpedo bombers had already been slaughtered — 35 of 41 planes shot down before they dropped a single effective torpedo. Japan thought the battle was already won.

But those doomed torpedo runs had done something no one planned. They pulled every Japanese fighter escort down to sea level. The carriers were completely exposed above. At 10:22 AM, American dive bombers appeared out of the clouds. In the next four minutes, three Japanese fleet carriers — Akagi, Kaga, Soryu — were hit, ablaze, and dying. A fourth, Hiryu, would follow by nightfall.

Japan lost all four carriers, 292 aircraft, and 3,057 men. They never recovered. The navy that had bombed Pearl Harbor six months earlier was broken forever — not by years of grinding warfare, but by four minutes of perfect timing, desperate sacrifice, and extraordinary luck.
