France Won the American Revolution — Not George Washington

America didn't win its own revolution. France did — and we barely admit it.

Every July Fourth, we celebrate Washington and the scrappy colonists who beat the world's greatest empire. But the colonists were broke, outgunned, and losing. The war should have ended with a British flag over Philadelphia.

Then France went all in. King Louis the Sixteenth poured in money the bankrupt Congress didn't have. He sent warships, weapons, and nearly eight thousand trained soldiers — almost matching Washington's own army at Yorktown.

And the decisive blow wasn't on land. A French fleet under Admiral de Grasse beat the British navy in Chesapeake Bay, cutting off escape by sea. Without those ships, Cornwallis sails away — and there's no surrender at Yorktown.

America's birth wasn't a solo act of rebellion. It was bankrolled, armed, and rescued by a foreign king. The creation story you were taught is, quietly, half French.
