Gravity Makes Your FEET Age Slower Than Your Head ⏳

Your feet are aging slower than your head. Not by much — but it's measurably, scientifically real.

How can gravity — something that just pulls things down — actually change the speed of time itself? And if it does... how come we don't notice?

Einstein's general relativity tells us that gravity isn't really a force — it's a curvature in spacetime caused by mass. The heavier the object, the more it warps the fabric of space and time around it. Now here's the key: the deeper you sit in that gravitational well — the closer you are to a massive object like Earth — the more spacetime is curved around you, and the slower time runs for you relative to someone higher up. This is called gravitational time dilation. At sea level, you're deeper in Earth's gravity well than someone standing on a mountaintop. So time literally ticks more slowly at sea level than at altitude. We measure this with atomic clocks — the most precise timekeepers ever built. Scientists have placed two identical atomic clocks — one at sea level, one at high altitude — and after just one day, the higher clock ran ahead by a tiny but real fraction of a second. The difference is only about 90 nanoseconds per day at the altitude of Mount Everest — but it's completely real and completely measurable.

And here's the crazy part: this isn't just a lab curiosity. Every GPS satellite orbiting 20,000 kilometers above you runs its clock about 45 microseconds fast per day because of gravitational time dilation — plus a separate relativistic effect from its orbital speed. If engineers didn't correct for both effects every single day, your GPS would drift by over 10 kilometers in error within 24 hours. Your phone's navigation only works because we account for the fact that gravity bends time.
