Your phone battery has no moving parts you can see, yet something is physically shuffling inside it every second.
So how does a sealed slab of chemicals hold electricity, and give it back on demand?
Inside are two electrodes, a graphite one and a metal-oxide one, separated by a liquid that only lets charged lithium atoms through. When you charge the battery, you force those lithium ions out of the metal oxide and pack them between the layers of the graphite, like books sliding onto a shelf. When you use the phone, the ions rush back across, and for every ion that crosses the liquid, an electron is forced the long way around through your circuit. That electron flow is the current that powers the screen.
So a battery does not store electricity at all. It stores lithium ions on one side, and releasing power just means letting them slide back to the other. You are charging a shelf, not a tank.
