Here's the part that'll rewire how you think about illness — many successful viruses have evolved ways to switch off MHC presentation entirely, making infected cells invisible to killer T cells. So your body evolved a backup rule: any cell that goes silent gets killed automatically. Natural killer cells are programmed to destroy cells that stop displaying MHC molecules.
