So how does one tiny packet leave your house and find one exact server across the planet?

It asks for directions at every step. Your packet reaches a router, and that router doesn't know the whole route. It knows just one thing: which neighbor to hand it to next, to get a little closer. That neighbor passes it on, and the next, each one reading the destination and forwarding it one hop further. Big networks share rough maps of who connects to whom through a system called BGP. So hop by hop, with no master map anywhere, your packet is relayed across dozens of machines until it lands.

There is no map of the internet. No computer holds the full route. Every packet you send is basically asking for directions at each corner, trusting strangers to point the right way, and it still crosses the planet in milliseconds, every time.
