Your hands are always trembling slightly, even when you are sure they are perfectly still.
So how does a camera turn those shaky hands into a razor-sharp photo?
The answer is optical image stabilization. Tucked beside the lens is a MEMS gyroscope, the same kind of motion chip that knows when you rotate your phone. It senses the camera tipping and shaking thousands of times every second. Those readings feed tiny electromagnets called voice coil motors, the same principle that drives a loudspeaker. They physically float the lens, or sometimes the whole sensor, nudging it in the exact opposite direction of your shake. The image stays locked in place while your hand wobbles around it.
It reacts so fast it can cancel a tremor before the photon ever lands on the sensor, correcting movements smaller than a fraction of a single degree.
