Every circuit has resistance — it limits how much current flows. So what happens when it suddenly drops to nothing?

Ohm's Law says current equals voltage divided by resistance. Drop resistance toward zero, and current surges — every electron the battery can push floods a wire built for far less. Inside the copper, electrons slam into atoms, dumping their energy as heat — resistive heating, avalanching in a short circuit. The temperature rockets past 1000 degrees; copper melts at 1085.
