How can a battery lose most of its power in the cold, then get it all back once it warms up?
A battery works by pushing lithium ions through a liquid electrolyte from one side to the other. That liquid behaves like any other: warm, it flows easily; cold, it thickens and turns sluggish, like honey in a fridge. The colder it gets, the harder it is for ions to swim across, so the battery's internal resistance shoots up, sometimes several times higher. High resistance means the battery struggles to deliver current, and your phone reads that weak push as a nearly empty tank.
So cold does not drain your battery. It traps the charge behind a thicker, slower fluid. Warm it back up and the power reappears, because nothing was lost. This is physics, not damage.
