Imagine a telescope as sharp as Hubble, but capturing a hundred times more sky in a single shot.
That is the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. Every image it takes is as crisp as Hubble's, yet covers at least a hundred times more sky at once.
Hubble sees the universe through a keyhole, one tiny patch at a time. Roman throws the door wide open. With its enormous field of view, it can survey millions of galaxies in the time an older telescope studies a handful. Its main mission is to chase one of the deepest mysteries in science: dark energy, the unknown force pushing the universe to expand faster and faster. Along the way, it should also find thousands of new planets around other stars.
By mapping how the universe has grown over billions of years, Roman could finally reveal what dark energy actually is. It is a telescope built to measure the fate of everything, and where all this expansion is headed.
