Double the Sun's mass, and you don't get a bigger, better Sun. You get a time bomb.
Picture our Sun suddenly twice as heavy. A star's mass sets its entire destiny, and this new Sun would blaze with more than ten times the light.
More mass means more crushing gravity in the core, forcing fusion to run wildly faster. That's why heavier stars are hotter, whiter, and far brighter. But there's a brutal tradeoff: burning that fast means burning out fast. Our real Sun lasts about ten billion years. Double its mass, and it would race through its fuel in only one or two billion. For Earth, it gets worse. The extra gravity would yank our planet into a tighter, faster orbit, while the flood of light boils the oceans away.
So a heavier Sun isn't a gift. In the universe, the biggest, brightest stars are the ones that die youngest and most violently.
