Zoom Out Far Enough and the Universe Looks Alive

Zoom out far enough, and the universe stops looking random. It starts to look alive, almost organic.

Picture every galaxy as one speck of light. Trillions of them, but not scattered evenly. They gather into glowing threads stretching hundreds of millions of light years.

We call it the cosmic web. Galaxies line up along enormous filaments, clustering where the strands cross, leaving near-empty voids in between. But the galaxies are only the visible part. The real framework is dark matter. We cannot see it directly, only feel its gravity. After the Big Bang, slightly denser clumps of it pulled in gas, and galaxies ignited along those invisible strands.

Here is the strange part. When supercomputers model nothing but dark matter and gravity, they recreate this web almost exactly. The largest pattern we know of, sketched by something we have never seen.
